Kim starts and ends my week with a Sunday morning and Saturday
afternoon advanced yoga class. She says that there are over one
million yoga yoga positions. She is always talking to us about
fascinating facts about the body, especially the muscles and
circulation system. She also reminds us that since we have to
breathe anyway, then why not make it our best deep cleaning breath.
She says the same thing about our positions, some of which are very
challenging to hold. She reminds us to not hold our breath, but
to always remember to breathe deeply with each movement.
"In with the good and out with the bad." She also
reminds us to "Close your eyes" so that we can concentrate on
our inner being and really get the full benefit of each move.
She also holds an equinox where we
get together about an hour before sunset and do
108 Sun Salutations. The
really cool thing is that everyone around the world is also doing it
an hour before their sunset, so the cycle continues for a full 24 hour
period. I think this must be pleasing to our creator as he sees
our energy shooting off of the Earth toward the whole universe.
The number 108 is also symbolic and fascinating. There are 108
stitches in a base ball. The distance from the Earth to the Moon
is equal to 108 Earths and the distance from the Sun to the Earth is
108 Suns. It is also interesting that the Muslim Mullah and the
Catholic Christian Rosary both have 108 prayer beads. She uses
the Rosary to keep count of our 108 Sun Salutations, and the class
usually takes about two and a half hours. |
